Hello everyone,
I have a short note today, because the only news is that I started Spanish classes today. The class is private tutoring for two hours a day, plus study and practice time outside of class on your own. It is very personalized and I think it will be perfect.
I plan to go to class about two days a week on the average. These will be the days I am in Quito and not traveling outside the city.
This week Wednesday through Friday Chris is taking me to visit some of the churches outside of Quito. Wednesday we go to Ibarra about a 2.5 hour drive northwest of Quito. Thursday and Friday is a two day trip to Guaranda, a town about 5 hours southwest of Quito. These will be my first chances to see churches that are in rural communities. This all makes for a good week.
Late yesterday I found an American-type sports bar that had both Guinnes and the NFL playoff games on TV. ALLELUAI!!!
So what if the play by play was in Spanish, which over time I came to understand more and more. I saw the end of the AFC game and the first half of the NFC game. I watched the second half and overtime in my apartment. It made for a nice Sunday evening.
Well, I have my homework to do, so I will say Adios for now.

Pronto tu espanol sera mejor que el mio!!!! Me encanta tu "blog".
Que bueno que estas disfrutando tu tiempo en Ecuador.
Hi Glenn,
The weather here is gorgeous. I hope you are being treated to equally as good weather.
The JCC had an Open House which I photographed and today I made a bunch of prints which I brought down to the JCC and distributed there. The Phoenix Jewish News will be publishing some of them. Unfortunately they publish them under the heading "Snapshots", which is no way to refer to "fine art".
I have not been photographing in your absence so I eagerly await your return. Many of your blog photographs are exquisite. Every time I look at them I feel like picking up my camera and running off and finding subjects/objects or whatever.
I am now entrenched in my position of DIG treasurer. The big item coming up is a presentation by Art Morris on March 8th. The DIG dues are $25 and if you want to see Art Morris it's another $10. You may be home by then. And if that volcano goes off while you're in it I may see you long before that.
The political arena is heating up for the candidates and they're falling all over themselves to show how religious they are. Huckabee's lining up the evangelists and Mitch Romney is trying to get them as well, although he's being a little more subtle about it. The New York Times did a hatchet piece on Guiliani today that should knock him out of the race entirely if enough people get to read it.
I read a ADL poll on anti-Semitism. After they broke it down, the most anti_Semitic were the young, uneducated blacks; 2nd most were the Hispanics not born in the United States.
This Polish guy is taking an eye test at the MVB. The lady says "Can you read the third line"? The 3rd line reads
C Z Y S K I. The Pole says "I know the guy".

Glenn,
Totally overcast today. I'm glad I'm not in Page where it's probably COLD as well as overcast.
Today is Thursday, our coffee day. Ed Mertz has joined our group and he's a refreshing addition. His picture display at the Mayo Clinic is excellent. He even made the frames himself.
Carrie Cohill, the good-looking blonde from the New Years Eve party, was over yesterday. She asked me to restore a family picture for her. The picture was bigger than my scanner, but I scanned 90% of it and did a practice restore and it came out pretty good.
At the JCC we saw a slide show on the famous Mexican painer Diego Rivera and his wife Freda Cajallo. Late in life Diego found a very young girl friend and brought her home and sketched her as she ran around the house naked. Freda walked in on them and divorced him. No sense of humor I guess.
Time to walk Wrangler.
Chick
